Pre-Commissioning Its First Opcon Powerboxx
Perth, June 20, 2012 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Perth-based clean power company Enerji Limited (ASX:ERJ) is approaching the final stages of installation of its waste heat to power Opcon Powerbox system at Horizon Power's Carnarvon Power Station.
Last week two engineers from Opcon's Sweden headquarters were on site to perform precommissioning of the Opcon Powerbox. They evacuated the nitrogen from the system required for its transport and storage before charging it with the initial small amount of refrigerant. Initial mechanical checks and laser alignment of the drives and motors were also completed without incident.
Work is continuing at the site with the Opcon Powerbox acoustic enclosure and switchroom sound cladding to be completed this week.
With Enerji on the cusp of establishing itself as a clean energy provider in Australia, it welcomes news that legislation for the Commonwealth Government's $10 billion Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) has passed the lower house of parliament.
The CEFC will leverage private sector financing for renewable energy and clean technology projects. The CEFC plans to identify suitable projects and provide support through loans, guarantees and equity investments. Due to commence operations in 2013/14 the CEFC has appointed Reserve Bank board member Jillian Broadbent as chairman.
While decisions on investment will be based on rigorous case-by-case analysis of candidate projects, Enerji will make a submission to the CEFC and is confident of support under the scheme given the stark energy efficiency benefits of Opcon Powerboxes.
The Opcon Powerbox has the capacity to produce more electrical power without burning additional fuel, while also potentially lowering CO2 emissions by up to 15%. Customer savings from the Opcon Powerbox have been estimated at up to $5.1m after five years and $34.7m after 20 years.
