Hong Kong, Sep 29, 2009 AEST (ABN Newswire) - C Y Foundation Group Limited ("C Y Foundation", HKG:1182) hosted the 2009 second annual Hong Kong qualifying tournament for the International E-sports Festival ("IEF") this past weekend, 26th and 27th September 2009. The number of participants this year was three times larger than last year's inaugural tournament, signalling the growing interest and demand for e-sports entertainment.

The IEF brings together youth from around the world via popular online and PC console games such as CounterStrike, WarCraft and StarCraft - games which allow for both team based and individual tournaments. Each participating IEF region holds its own qualifying event and the winners of each region will meet in an international final to compete for the honor of world champion and cash prizes.

The second annual 2009 IEF Hong Kong regional tournament was sponsored by Intel, the world leader in silicon innovation, and ASUS, a leading main board producer. Our partners include Msystem, Hong Kong's largest internet cafe chain and Esports.hk, the leading online game community in Hong Kong.

This year’s Hong Kong tournament witnessed more than 26 teams and 138 individuals go head to head in highly exciting competitions. The team and individual finals were decided by down-to-the-wire matches that headed into overtime. Other team participants crowded around monitors to see who will carry the Hong Kong flag into the final. 5 members from RS team and Ho Chun Kai won the Counter Strike and Warcraft competitions respectively. They will compete against participants from 15 different countries and regions for top prizes at the IEF finals.

The 2009 IEF international final will be hosted in Suwon, Korea from 30th October to 1st November 2009. It is expected to eclipse the success of The 2008 IEF tournament, held in Wuhan, China, which attracted world class players and more than 150,000 audiences. The two day event in Korea, regarded as the "Olympics" of the digital entertainment industry, aims to use e-sports to foster stronger bonds among the youth worldwide with different of culture, language and geography.

Commenting on the event, Mr. Theodore Cheng, Chairman of C Y Foundation said. "Our mission is to make IEF a Ditigal Olympics for the young people of the world. The tournament enables everyone to become an e-Olympian. "

The IEF Finals has a rich history of entertainment. Since its establishment in 2005, IEF has organized large-scale events in Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian and Qingdao in China, and Seoul, Kangneung and Taebaek in Korea that include a grand opening ceremony, cosplay shows and forums for the digital creative industry. The IEF 2009 Finals will feature performances from popular bands and solo artists.

Mr. Cheng further commented "The IEF has taken center stage in the e-sports arena by continuing to expand its worldwide presence. C Y Foundation will continue to work with its business partners to build the IEF into the world's premier online entertainment and e-sports platform."
