Beach Petroleum Limited (ASX:BPT) Weekly Drilling Report Week ending 2 September 2009
Adelaide, Sep 3, 2009 AEST (ABN Newswire) - Beach Petroleum Limited (ASX:BPT)(PINK:BEPTF) drilling report for the week ending 12 August, 2009. Highlights of the week's activities include:
Beach Petroleum Operated Cooper / Eromanga Exploration
Marino-1 (PEL 91, Beach 40%) has been plugged and abandoned and the rig has been released. A drillstem test over the interval 1649 - 1655 metres in the Birkhead Formation recovered approx 3.5 barrels of oil during a 3-hour flow period. While the recovery of live oil is encouraging for the future exploration in the permit area, the result demonstrates that the zone is not capable of commercial production at this location.
The Ensign 30 rig is being moved to the Wakefield-1 location in PEL 218 (Post Permian J.V., Beach 23.33%). The well, a test of the Mesozoic section in the Nappamerri Trough, will be targeting oil in the Namur and Hutton Sandstones. Wakefield-1 is expected to spud mid next week.
Basker - Manta - Gummy (BMG) Oil Field Development - Gippsland Basin
Basker-7 (Beach 30%) has been cased and completed as a Latrobe Group oil producer. The Ocean Patriot semi-submersible rig is expected to be released from the well later today.
Beach Operated Bass Basin - Offshore Tasmania: Spikey Beach-1 (T/38P)
The Ocean Patriot semi-submersible drilling rig is expected to be released to Beach for the drilling of the Spikey Beach-1 exploration well in T/38P, in the Bass Basin, offshore Tasmania, later today. Beach is the Operator for the well and will be earning 80% in the Spikey Beach Farmout Blocks through the drilling of the well. Spikey Beach-1 will be targeting mean recoverable oil of 16 million barrels and a high side of 41 million barrels (recoverable) of oil in the Upper Eastern View Group. The well is expected to spud early next week., dependent upon weather conditions.
Egypt - North Shadwan Concession - Gulf of Suez
The Comet Jack-up rig has moved onto the NS394-3 (Burtocal North) oil exploration well location (Beach 20%) in the Gulf of Suez. The well, located 3 km north of the NS394-1, 1A oil discovery, will be targeting oil in the Cretaceous Nubia Formation. NS394-3 is to be drilled to a planned depth of 3475 metres and is expected to spud by the end of this week.
