Essen, Dec 11, 2008 AEST (ABN Newswire) - HOCHTIEF AG (FRA:HOT)(PINK:HOCFY) subsidiaries and their participating interests have been awarded contracts in the USA and Dubai with a total volume of almost EUR 1.2 billion. US subsidiary Turner has been selected to construct the Great American Tower in Cincinnati for around EUR 165 million (USD 210 million). A joint venture around the Al Habtoor Leighton Group, a participating interest of HOCHTIEF subsidiary Leighton, is to build the new Concourse 3 at Dubai Airport, including hotels and duty-free areas, in a contract worth EUR 1.019 billion (AUD 2 billion).
When it is completed in January 2011, the Great American Tower will be the tallest building in Cincinnati. The 41-story commercial tower will provide some 74,000 square meters of space. Turner is to erect the tower as a green building and will seek a LEED Certification from the United States Green Building Council. The Great American Tower is the second phase of the Queen City Square development in Cincinnati. Turner also served as construction manager for the first phase, another office building, completed in 2006.
At Dubai Airport, a joint venture comprising Al Habtoor (share 40 percent), Murray & Roberts (share 40 percent) and Takenaka (share 20 percent) is to build the new Concourse 3. The contract is scheduled to be completed by April 2011. The concourse, which will include one four-star and one five-star hotel, together with retail areas, will be 645 meters long and have a total area of more than 528,000 square meters. It will accommodate 20 aircraft stands, 18 of which will be able to handle the new wide-body Airbus A380. An automated people mover will take passengers directly to Terminal 3, which was also delivered by the Al Habtoor joint venture. The project is worth just under EUR 408 million (AUD 800 million) to the Al Habtoor Leighton Group. HOCHTIEF subsidiary Leighton's share of this is slightly more than EUR 183 million.
