30 October 2008 - Geneva, Switzerland and Brescia, Italy: Advanced Digital Broadcast (www.adbglobal.com), a leading supplier of technology to the global digital television industry, announced today the launch of a new line of interactive digital terrestrial products destined for the Italian retail market. The products, marketed under the i-CAN(TM) brand, will be distributed throughout the country via ADB's distribution partner ZAP.
The i-CAN 1110TH is a standard definition (SD) digital terrestrial set-top box compatible with MPEG-2 compression standards and HDMI(TM) connectivity which allows the product to connect directly to a flat panel TV. Furthermore the HDMI(TM) connector allows for the transfer of the content in digital form directly to the flat panel TV, thus improving the quality of image and sound. The unit supports multiple conditional access systems such as Conax, Irdeto and Nagra and features a double smart card reader. The product is delivered with MHP 1.0.2 middleware supplied by Osmosys (www.osmosys.tv) and embedded Sorrisi & Canzoni Electronic Programme Guide (EPG). The box is also equipped with a SCART socket to allow connection of a VCR or DVR player, an Optical S/PDIF socket for Home Cinema connection, Audio 5+1 Dolby Digital and Stereo outputs.
A second product, the i-CAN 1100T which is an entry level standard definition (SD) digital terrestrial set-top box compatible with MPEG-2 compression standards. "With the introduction of these new and competitive digital terrestrial products, ADB confirms its leadership in the Italian retail market," comments Jim Lomax, Executive VP Worldwide Sales & Marketing. "We have been at the forefront of the Italian DTT market with fully compliant products since it launched at the end of 2003. Throughout the years we have continued to show our commitment to this market and are confident that both of these products will meet success with the consumers".
Both the i-CAN 1100T and the i-CAN 1110TH deliver the above features with minimum energy consumption, ahead of the requirements specified by the respective European Union Code of Conduct for 2009. This demonstrates that the products are environmentally friendly whilst at the same time lowering consumers' electricity usage.
The products will be presented under a number of different casings and colours to match consumers' different tastes. The products also include a software loader for remote upgrades, allowing future services to be downloaded into the box over the air.
