Vacon Oyj (HEL:VAC1V) Vacon Group, Press release, 18 November 2008

The global AC drives manufacturer Vacon is setting up new representative offices in Romania and Ukraine to serve the growing markets in Eastern and South Eastern Europe. Due to the increasing demand for energy savings and optimized process control, variable speed AC drives are becoming a standard solution in many applications.

"We want to increase the number of regional Vacon offices in order to serve our customers wherever they operate," says Heikki Hiltunen, Executive Vice President, Vacon. "Economic reforms have been very rapid both in Romania and Ukraine during the past few years. I am confident that the growing industry and economy in these countries will benefit from our energy-saving AC drives."

"Vacon's main segments in Romania will be power, water and wastewater, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC), machine building, the petrochemical and the marine industry. Vacon's AC drives professionals offer segment-specific know-how and competent service. We are eager to make the Vacon brand strong in the Romanian AC drives market," says Johann Goldfuss, Managing Director of Vacon's subsidiary in Austria and head of Vacon's Romania representative office.

"In Ukraine, our main market segments will be industry and the energy sector. Ukraine is a major producer of heavy machinery and industrial equipment for the mining, metal and chemical industries, so there is a huge business potential for our AC drives solutions in the country," says Hiltunen.

Vacon's Romania office is located in Cluj-Napoca, Romania's third largest city, where industrialization has been most rapid during the past two years. The contact information is: Vacon Romania, Cuza Voda, No. 1, 400107 Cluj Napoca, Romania, tel. +40364118981, mobile +40733010426, email office@vacon.ro.

Vacon's Ukraine office is located in Kiev, the capital and largest city in the country. The contact information is: Vacon Ukraine, 42-44 Shovkovychna Str., Regus City Horizon Tower, 01601 Kiev, Ukraine, tel. +38 044 459 0579, mobile +380 50 355 90 97.

The growth in the AC drives market is based on rising energy prices, increasing automation, and falling electronics prices. Particularly the high energy price encourages investments in AC drives, which bring considerable energy savings. At its shortest, the payback period for investments in AC drives can be much less than 12 months. There are no substitutes to AC drives.
