Wärtsilä Oyj Abp (HEL:WRT) Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release, 30 October 2008

Wärtsilä Corporation's logistics partner, CEVA Logistics, has been awarded the first Lean & Green Award 2008 in the Netherlands. CEVA Logistics won the award for their best practice example in designing a CO2-friendly supply chain for Wärtsilä. The award was granted by Connekt, a recognized Dutch forum that promotes smart and sustainable mobility thinking among logistics service providers, shippers, non-governmental organisations, governmental bodies, and international partners.

In August 2008, Wärtsilä signed a co-operation agreement for its 24/7 global spare parts deliveries with CEVA Logistics, who will take responsibility for the shipment of spare parts to Wärtsilä's international customers.

Earlier this year, Wärtsilä announced its intention to centralise spare parts logistics and to build a Central Distribution facility in the Netherlands. By centralising these activities, faster and more efficient deliveries of spare parts can be achieved.

CEVA Logistics uses Supply Chain Optimization software to make a detailed analysis of shipments. The calculation of the estimated CO2 emissions is based on the weight of shipments, the distance between warehouses, and the transportation mode. The centralisation of Wärtsilä's spare parts logistics is estimated to reduce significantly the amount of CO2 impact, due to the shorter distances compared to the level prevailing today.

"We are happy that our planned transportation management system has been recognised for its ability to promote environmental impact. From Wärtsilä's point of view the improved customer service is also important," comments Mr Donal Lynch, VP, Parts, Wärtsilä Services.

As of today, Wärtsilä's seven product companies in Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Norway and Switzerland, are responsible for the global spare parts logistics for their own products.

The transportation management system will be implemented step by step and will be fully realised during 2009.
