Enea AB (STO:ENEA) New Approach Combines Commercial, Standards-Based, Open Source Software with Best-in-Class Professional Services
Stockholm, Sweden and Santa Clara, Calif., ATCA Summit- October 21, 2008 - Enea® (Nordic Exchange/Small Cap/ENEA), a world leading provider of network software and services, today announced a series of initiatives geared toward bringing stronger focus to the company's key vertical markets. The initiatives will combine the company's world-class services expertise and market-leading commercial software with a new emphasis on select open source software projects, thereby helping to foster industry growth and standards adoption.
"Enea has traditionally relied on its extensive portfolio of commercial software products and industry-specific services expertise in order to help customers solve problems," said Åsa Landén Ericsson, president and CEO at Enea. "The company is now opting to take a more open, solutions-centric approach that utilizes our unique software portfolio and 40+ years of telecom and vertical market services expertise, as well as open source software. This approach will ensure that customers can maximize the benefits of the open source community along with industry leading, feature rich software solutions backed by some of the deepest market expertise available today."
As a key part of this strategy, Enea is announcing that it is joining the OpenSAF Foundation and contributing to the OpenSAF Project, with the goal of enhancing and complementing the company's portfolio of commercial, high-availability middleware products for telecom equipment manufacturers. Enea will continue to aggressively promote and enhance its market leading, standards-based Enea Element middleware product while at the same time developing an offering for customers who are looking for an open source approach.
"Customers have increasingly unique requirements for solving industry problems," said Terry Pearson, vice president of marketing for Enea. "Although the industries Enea operates in have the same general needs, companies often have specific criteria that makes a one-size-fits-all software solution impractical. Our OpenSAF initiative is a good example of our increased focus on delivering standardized software packages drawn from our portfolio of commercial, standards-based offerings, select open source projects, and unique customization services. Enea is the one company that can provide custom solutions, standardized solutions, or any combination in between. It's good for Enea, good for our customers, and will help foster industry growth."
In addition to adopting OpenSAF as part of Enea's software and services offerings, Enea will announce a series of related programs. The new programs will focus on expanding feature sets for Enea's portfolio of industry leading commercial and standards-based software products: greater involvement in additional key open source projects; and complementary professional services offerings. Together, these initiatives will enable Enea to address a wider range of customer challenges and deliver more value to companies developing communications systems and connected devices.
