Stockholm, Sweden - Net Insight, TeliaSonera International Carrier and DVE will showcase a first-of-its-kind, live demonstration of holographic-appearing telepresence streamed over TeliaSonera International Carrier's switched media network at IBC 2008, 12-16, Sept. 2008.
The leading-edge demonstration is yet another example of how the Net Insight Nimbra platform transports and enables the most advanced video applications. The demonstration will show a remote-based presenter projected as a holographic-appearing image behind a DVE podium. The DVE screen creates the appearance that a person is standing at a podium, the final effect is simulated reality, permitting video images of people to appear to be positioned in the actual room. The podium on display at the show, is one of many next-generation telepresence solutions from DVE. TeliaSonera International Carrier will transmit the data stream over its switched European media network from Stockholm to the IBC show floor in Amsterdam using Net Insight's high-capacity Nimbra switches.
Telepresence is poised to transform global communication as gas prices and global warming are pushing service providers to introduce differentiated videoconferencing offerings. With the capability to stream higher packet loads required by high-end, real-time collaborative video, broadcast and telecom network operators now have the opportunity to deliver telepresence as an extended service, generating additional revenue opportunities.
