EB Reaches New Level in Testing with EB Test Tool Platform
With the new Test Tool Platform (TTP), EB, specialized in demanding embedded software and hardware solutions for the wireless and automotive industries, has reached a new efficiency level in product deliveries by employing modern testing tools in everyday use. EB Test Tool Platform is based on the Testing and Test Control Notation 3 (TTCN-3) standard set by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). The open development platform Eclipse is also one of the key elements. It enables TTP scaling to company-wide use and furthermore global usage of existing test environments without further heavy investments.
EB's Test Tool Platform offers cost efficiency, as well as ease of use and speed for EB's own product program. Strong test automation, available from any EB or partner site, helps products to benefit from early phase testing. "What makes it unique is that the same set of tools can be used from simulation environments to product certification in research and development and even up to production testing in the near future," says EB's Project Manager Asmo Saarela.
With the standard TTCN-3 language, projects can also use public test suites created by various parties, such as WiMAX Forum, Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and the Automotive Open System Architecture (AUTOSAR) consortium. Test suites can also be easily developed by partners anywhere in the world. "We can rerun all test cases after each modification, which makes regression testing significantly easier and faster," says EB's Project Manager Mika Tuomainen.
EB Test Tool Platform is a general solution based on a high level standard that can be applied to all domains. By implementing required TTCN-3 adapters, it can be used with any system or product at any testing level.
An important partner for EB in the Test Tool Platform project was OpenTTCN, which provided the TTCN-3 tools, additional software modules and training for the TTCN-3 standard and tools.
"EB was an exceptionally interested and active customer, but the most essential factor in the highly successful project was the unusually open and confidential dialogue," comments Vesa-Matti Puro, Managing Director of OpenTTCN.
