New Delhi, May 19, 2006 AEST (ABN Newswire) - The Asian Development Bank (ASX: ATB) sponsored an international roundtable on Competition Law and Policy from 16-17 May 2006 at New Delhi, India.
The Roundtable brought together competition commissions and other organizations from not less than 15 countries around the world, academicians, as well as international experts from APEC, OECD, and UNCTAD.
It aimed to provide Asian competition authorities and related agencies with an opportunity to exchange views on regional competition laws and policies and learn from each other's experiences on competition matters. A competition law and policy toolkit being developed by ADB was presented for comments from participants during the last day of the Roundtable.
The Honorable Minister of Company Affairs of India, Shri. Prem Chand Gupta, inaugurated the Roundtable. Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, Chairman of the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, delivered the keynote address. ADB's General Counsel welcomed the participants. Senior officials from various government agencies of India, including the Ministry of Company Affairs and the Ministry of Finance, as well as non-government agencies, also participated in the Roundtable.

Established in 1966, it is owned by 65 members - 47 from the region. In 2005, it approved loans and grants for projects totaling US$6.95 billion, and technical assistance amounting to US$198.8 million.
