Seven-Eleven Japan Co. is the country's largest convenience store operator with more than 12,450 company-owned and franchised stores in its homeland. Alcohol, candy, soft drinks, and fast foods (such as box lunches and rice balls) make up most of sales, followed by cigarettes, magazines, software, and other nonfood goods. Its North American subsidiary, 7-Eleven, operates or franchises some 6,840 stores throughout that continent. In addition, the company operates more than 17,500 convenience stores in about a dozen countries around the globe, including more than 1,600 in China. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Japanese retail conglomerate Seven & i Holdings.
