The Queensland floods have been described as unprecedented and their impact on the energy and resources industry, among other industries, will indeed be extraordinary. Early estimates place the cost of direct damages to the Queensland economy in the vicinity of billions of dollars (including an estimated cost of AUD$2.3 billion to resource companies according to the Queensland Resources Council), and some commentators are projecting this to become the most expensive disaster in Queensland and Australian history.
