South Korea's biggest airline Korean Air Co. (SEO:003490) Wednesday posted a record first-quarter operating profit as economic recovery helped to increase outbound travel and cargo business. Operating profit for the three months ended March 31 jumped to KRW220.2 billion from KRW6.6 billion a year earlier.
Wall Street rose on Friday led by technology shares after Oracle and BlackBerry maker Research In Motion posted better-than-expected quarterly earnings reports. For the week, the Dow fell 1.3 per cent, the S&P trimmed 0.3 per cent and the Nasdaq rose 1 per cent.
Asian stocks markets broadly dropped on Thursday despite Wall Street posted a solid gain overnight. Tokyo shares opened lower as the stronger yen continued to dampen investors' sentiment. In Hong Kong market, China Minsheng Banking Corp failed to lift the Hang Seng Index in its debut. Shanghai and Seoul shares also declined as their Asian peers.
