The Australian share market declined on Wednesday as miners were lowered on China's move to tighten monetary policy, which hit commodities prices. At the close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index fell 31.4 points, or 0.6 per cent, at 4868.1, while the broader All Ordinaries index retreated 31.5 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 4900.1.
The US market fell into mood swings and closed in the red last week. On Friday, the disappointing sales by BlackBerry maker Research In Motion dragged the technology companies lower. For the week, the Dow index lost 155 points, or 1.58 per cent. This week the market will be tested by crucial data including September non-farm payrolls, final second-quarter gross domestic product and several other big economic reports.
The Australian shares closed marginally higher on Wednesday despite weak lead from Wall Street and steep quarterly contraction in Japan. The resources stocks were higher on stronger commodities prices. The benchmark S&P/ASX200 was up 7.3 points, or 0.19 per cent, at 3824.6, while the broader All Ordinaries gained 8.3 points, or 0.22 per cent, to 3808.9. Investors are expecting some pullback in recent trading sessions and seeking more fund raisings at discount on the market.
