SAI Global Limited Stock Market Press Releases and Company Profile

Boston, Sep 6, 2006 AEST (ABN Newswire) - A process improvement specialist from Boston, Massachusetts, USA, has been honored by the leading association of pollution prevention practitioners for his 25-year efforts to encourage organizations to reduce their impacts on the environment.

Dr. Robert Pojasek, Principal Consultant with SAI Global Professional Services NA, has been named the 2006 "Pollution Prevention Champion." The annual award will be issued on September 19, 2006, during "Pollution Prevention Week" in Washington, D.C. USA.

His passion for pollution prevention and cleaner technology began at a young age and according to Dr Pojasek: "I am really honored to be recognized by the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable for my work in this very important area."

"The US toxics release inventory (2001 data) reported that approximately 25,000 industrial facilities released a little over 6 billion pounds of listed pollutants to the air, water and land. Clearly, we still have a long way to go," said Dr. Pojasek.

"The reduction of production losses to the environment is fundamental to good business. Recycling and reuse isn't enough any more, we need to prevent pollution at its source through the use of cleaner production methods."

"By using quality management methods and tools, it is possible for employees to prepare formal action plans to change the process so that waste is eliminated at the source, which means you do not generate the toxic pollutants and other wastes in the first place. This bottom-up approach works well with the more traditional 'top-down' management approach."

Dr. Pojasek has been working in the field of pollution prevention since 1981; his experiences culminated in a publication for the US Environmental Protection Agency entitled, "An Organizational Guide for Pollution Prevention." He has also written a book entitled, "Making the Business Case for Environment, Health and Safety" (BLR Publishers, Old Saybrook, CT USA).

Dr. Pojasek is currently working with SAI Global, writing a new Business Excellence framework (BE 50000) that will allow businesses to improve their practices and lower their overall impact on the environment while improving occupational health and safety and the quality of their products and services.
